Our Playing Philosophy

West Bridgford is all about "grass roots" hockey. We believe passionately that the game is for everyone of all abilities and that if you share that passion then we want to know you. We strive to ensure that hockey is affordable for all, and have some of the lowest subscription and match tax levels in the country. We also have the Helen Richardson Richard Cooper Fund to assist young players to fulfill their potential as future coaches or umpires as well as assisting if there are any financial restrictions to their playing development.

We are very well known throughout the Midlands, and now, thanks to national success at Ist and 2nd team level, the country, as a vibrant Club that plays competetively across 16 adult Saturday league teams, and enjoys all aspects of the game on and off the pitch. We invest heavily in youth development, not just for ourselves but for the future of hockey in general as our youngsters inevitably leave us for further education and work, taking the love of hockey with them. We are enormously proud of this. We are now finding that many of our ex-juniors are returning after College and University to renew their hockey with us.

We have a fantastic player retention record, with members finding it impossible to leave us even when their bodies cry enough. Last season we were proud to be able to say that one of our teams sported players with an age gap of 55 years, and the first team traveling support included several ex first team players who have had a free bus pass for over fifteen years. Our bar is arguably the best, (bar none!) with a dedicated CAMRA member running it and a local brewery owner supplying it how could it not be?
