U18 Boys remain exiled.
New season, new challenges, the Boys U18s drew Belper (aka Repton School 1stXI) in the first round of the EH Cup. The warm summer weather not only persisted into late September but also, amazingly, extended to Belper, however it was not to our liking, and nor was the bouncy pitch, we were 4-0 down at half time but a spirited second half performance kept the final score to 5-0. So into the Plate and another away fixture against Burton at Repton School last Sunday.

With just eleven players the management (Glyn and Clive) could only watch the drama unfold, we went 1-0 up from the first short, Brocky to Ryan Glossop at the far post and in. Burton equalized but Ryan struck again and Brocky got the third, Burton though pulled one back with the last touch of the half, 3-2. They started where they left off and scored twice but even 4-3 down we were always in the game and eventually Josh Carroll leveled. Throughout, Stan Hanson had been magnificent pulling off many saves and Alex Brockhurst had frequently led raids that caused problems for the Burton defence. The scores were level 4-4 at full time and thus the game went to flicks, this was the fourth time in the last eight U18 games, and the fourth time we have won in this way! This time it really was 'simples', Ryan scored, Stan nonchalantly saved, Oscar scored, Stan saved, Brocky scored, Stan saved, 3-0, game over.

The draw for the next round has again been cruel, Neston South Wirral, away on 26/1/14. Please remember the club has an U18s team but engaged in missionary work outside West Bridgford.

Best regards,
Clive Notman
