RESULTS OF THE WBHC MAY OLYMPICS

Well done to everyone who took part in the May Bank Holiday Olympics. Hope you had fun! There were around 85 participants this time and I think we covered a fair few miles between us... We had a guest team again and this time it was the Old Georgians Ladies who were fierce competitors! Thanks to them...

Well done to the coaches team who had the most participants! And well done to the Men's 2's.....faster, higher and stronger in many areas and overall winners. Now to think what c ---- read more

Over 50s - We Win Again!

Well done over 50s Men. A fabulous down to the wire win against Litchfield propels us into the last 8 in the Plate. 1 - 1 (Jez Dixon) at full time, Bridgford go through on sudden death strokes (no jokes!) with Ebsworth and Worsley holding their nerve after the first round ended 4 -4.

Coffee Morning

We raised £424!

Thanks to everyone who came along and contributed, it was a fantastic effort to support the Trussell Trust  by our junior parents at our charity coffee morning. A big thank you to all involved, we were blown away with the generosity.  In addition £424 was raised for Trussell Trust by selling drinks and cakes donated by parents.

Earlier .....

This morning we are holding our annual juniors' coffee morning. Our chosen charity this year is the Trussel Trust (www.trusselltrust.org) and we are hoping to raise lots of money to donate to them. We are also collecting food doantions for the local Clifton branch. all donations very welcome but do have a look at their website to see what they particularly need. Do come along for a (socially distanced) chat, coffee and cake, have a look at our brilliant juniors (and coaches!) and empty your pockets in aid of a fantastic and, sadly very necessary, charity.

Brilliant beer festival

Thanks to all who attended and special thanks to those who helped. It was a great success we ran out at 10.30 Saturday night !! (Derek).

Members: please thank Derek for his enormous efforts in getting the Festival organised and run so successfully. It brought a lot of pleasure to many people, not just for the beer, which brought a few Sunday headaches, but the great atmosphere and friendship which the Club has neen missing in recent times. (Geoff)

Back to Hockey/Walking Hockey

Back to Hockey and Walking Hockey have both moved back half an hour and are now from 7.00 to 8.00 at WB School. Back to Hockey is a good opportunity to check out your skills, learn some new ones, or even to learn how to play hockey! Walking Hockey is great fun, but works best if you already have some hockey skills. For more information, I can put you in touch with our organiser, Steve LeMottee, if you contact me. You do need to register in order to join in either of these activities, non club members are very welcome but you need to give it a day or two for the process to happen! (See button bar near the diary header to the right) Get in touch if you need any more information.

Tony Johnson Family message
I wanted to pass on my sincere thanks on behalf of myself and my family for the wonderful and fitting tribute you and the other members of West Bridgford Hockey Club organised for my fathers funeral procession recently.

Hockey meant a lot to him, West Bridgford Hockey Club meant so much more.
His weekend revolved around the hockey club, whether it was playing and then propping up the bar, umpiring and then propping up the bar, conducting a pitch inspection and then propping up the bar, and on the rare occasions 'working' on the bar and then propping up the bar from the opposite side, the club was never far from his heart (or his home...!).
He made so many great friends there and so many happy memories and he would have been truly blown away to have seen the number of people that came to show their respect a few weeks back.

Thank you so much to you and anyone else involved in organising it and please pass on my thanks and gratitude to everyone who made the effort to come out to show their respect. It was an incredible sight to see so many familiar faces in full attire, hockey sticks and all, one that will stay with me and my family forever.

Finally a huge thanks to everyone who donated to the chosen charities. The donations to The Lake District Mountain Rescue Dogs amounted to nearly £1200. Being an entirely voluntary organisation the donations were greatly received and contribute towards helping them to continue their good work. The charity have been in touch and pass on their thanks.

Once again we are truly grateful for yours and everyone else who were involved, not only in organising and participating in the procession, but for being a part of my dads life.

We hope you are all well and wish you all the best for the future.

Regards,
Michael, Pip, Samantha & Rebecca.
CLUB AGM

Our AGM was held on Tuesday 19th May  - many thanks to all who logged in and took part.

The MAGIC of Hockey

Despite Election and Brexit gloom, every now and again something happens which reminds me that we are very lucky to have our Club and our Hockey. On Sunday the Mens 1s had a rearranged match away at Barton, a couple of players were unavailable from the Boots win on Saturday so Ali asked George Wells (aged 14) if he would like to play. Of course he would was the expected response. George came on at first rotation into the midfield, and did well considering that Barton were quick and physical. It didn't take long for him to realise that you cannot wait for a pass to arrive, unless you want, man, stick, ball and ambulance to arrive at the same time, He rapidly adapted to the speed of the game, and later in the second half had a stint up front with Zack. A slick move up the left initiated by Natt and Dave E found Zack wide on the left wing just outside the D. A great cross to the far post was turned in by George, diving full lenght to register his first first team goal in his first first team match. MAGIC.

Jonno Braved the Shave
Jonno braved the shave in memory of former club member Gary Hunt. Thanks to the generosity of club members and friends we have raised £1200 direct to Cancer Research and a further £800 to the Hayward House Hospice. A massive thanks to you all for your contributions. Still time to give cash as the donation to Hayward house will not be done for about 10 days.
A very sad day for the Club

It is with a very sad heart that I have to announce the passing of our past member and very dear friend Gary Hunt. Gary was a much loved member of the Club in the 70's through to the mid 90's having joined the Club as a schoolboy and returning to us after University in Sheffield. He played for the 2's and 3's as well as becoming a key member of the ubiquitous Coops Sunday XI through the golden years of the 80's. Gary has of course remained very close to the Club through the wonderful friendships forged in that team, and his illness has hit all of us who loved him very hard.

Gary was an honest, reliable and steadfast man both in his sport and his life, a better friend you could not wish for. Cancer took him rapidly, taking as it tends to a fine person with so much more to give, and damaging the lives of his loved ones. He leaves a beautiful wife and daughter Chris and Lizzie, who have been brilliant in their support for him over the last 3 months, and of course he leaves all of us who loved him with a massive void in our hearts. He will be sorely missed. (Jonno and Geoff).
The funeral will be at Catfoot Lane on the 4th October at 1:30 and afterwards at the 4 Bells in Woodborough.

SECURITY
Please can you be vigilant when leaving the Clubhouse and if you have been given a set of keys check carefully and lock up properly.

Thankyou

SUMMER HOCKEY CAMP

The Summer Hockey Camp was another great success. Thanks to the hard work of all concerned, and special mention to Paul and Faye Sibley for the determination to organise it all, and the expertise to carry it through. (Geoff)
As well as making a decent profit, you have helped us show how good we are to our own youngsters and also to those who haven't yet joined. (Bob)
