Brilliant Weekend for The Club

I seem to be writting a number of these, which can't be bad. Saturday saw the ladies 1's finish their NWHL Prem season with a great performance beating Worsop 5 - 0. This rounded off a superb season, played 20, won 20, not too shabby. Meanwhile the Mens 1's were away at Stourport, never an easy trip and came away 2 - 1 winners. This means that the home game this Saturday against Sutton (1:30) could see us clinch the title and win promotion to the National League for the first time in the Club's history. Sunday morning came cold and blowy, Ladies 2's beat South Notts 2 - 0 at Trent on the new blue pitch - probably went blue with the cold. I then went to open the School pitch for the cup games expecting to find polar bears and Ranulph Fiennes hacking off a frost-bitten digit. Cambridge Uni arrived for their HA Trophy semi-final with the Mens 2's. An hour and a half later they went home having lost on flicks after we came back from being 1 - 0 with an over-time short corner conversion. Two great flicks from Ben Docherty saw the students finally defeated, and Bridgford through to the final against Tulse Hill and Dulwich on May 5th. At 2pm the undefeated Ladies 1's entertained Bloxwich Ladies 1's who came with a very noisy and enthusiastic supporting crowd. Two minutes later their crowd went balistic as their team went 1 - 0 up after we hadn't quite realised that the game had started. That did the trick and suffice to say there was nothing for them to cheer about for the rest of the game, their crowd and players realising fairly quickly that they were going to be well beaten by a much better team who put 3 great goals past them in a very tidy diplay of fast moving quality hockey. Ladies now have the NWHL final to play on 24th at Beeston and the EH Vase semi TBA.
